I’ve been watching the folks running for President of the United States. I understand that it is basically a lot of politicians blathering and a couple of “non-politicians/business people” bleating. However there’s also been a lot of complaining going on. Nothing works. Nothing is being done for the average citizen. No one listens to “my” problems.
This leads to my true story. Yesterday I went to my doctor for my physical exam. Before the actual examination began the physician’s assistant told me that since I am now automatically enrolled in Medicare I have to take a Depression Screening. This consists of a series of questions that are used to determine whether or not you should just hook up your car’s exhaust pipe to your garden hose and run it into your living room.
For example, “Do you feel like everyone has it better than you?” “Do you contemplate suicide?” “Do you have little interest in doing things?” “Do you want to stay in bed and hide under the covers?” Jeez! I was depressed just taking the test!!!
This is the US government asking these questions. I thought to myself they don’t have to ask Medicare participants. All they have to do is go to a gathering of Presidential candidates and listen to the speeches…particularly one candidate.
Seems that the pundits and experts marvel how a “non-politican/business person” can be leading his particular pack. How? Just look at the crowd he attracts. It’s full of the same people who would be taking a Depression Screening if they weren’t so bored with their lives that they have to kill time listening to this guy’s complaining. This guy by the way is also of the Medicare Depression Screening age.
I noticed a couple of things during his diatribes. He uses the word “again” which says that there will be a return to something that existed before. As far as I know the USA is still the No.1 economy in the world and wields the No.1 military and most powerful fighting force the world has ever seen. Economic factors ebb and flow and go up and down all the time. Since we live in a “free” enterprise society it’s not the role of government to dictate to businesses how they should operate or where they should make their goods. It’s always been that way so nothing new there.
Listening to a number of his talks I noticed something else. He rarely, if ever, uses the word “we.” It’s always “I.” Dictators love the first person singular pronoun. In a democracy I thought we’re supposed to live by, or strive to live by, the first person plural. Or is the US Senate and House of Representatives just going to go away. I’ll bet the “non-politican/business person” would love that. Those buildings represent some valuable real estate.
I kept wondering what exactly the “again” state was supposed to be and then I began to check out the crowd. They are all part of the “ER” crowd — whiter, older, and poorer. These are the folks that have been getting screwed over by the “free” enterprise gang for 100 years and now they’re standing behind a guy who wants to give them more of the same. And they cheer him!!! I’m sorry to say that another “ER” has to be added to the list — dumber! Like the Depression Screening test.
